"X-Ray" of a U.S. Musket with "Buck
and Ball" Round
This X-Ray shows the
interior of an American musket found in the 1970's near the site of the
Battle of Chateauguay in Lower Canada (Quebec). Thrown away during the
American retreat, it is still loaded with "buck and ball" (a musket ball
and three buck shot). Used extensively by U.S. troops during the war,
this type of projectile inflicted far less serious wounds than the
normal musket ball.
